From VA Benefits to State & Local Support
New Hampshire veterans have access to a robust suite of benefits—spanning health, housing, education, recreation, and financial support. Both federal and state systems work together to provide tailored services.
1. VA Disability Compensation & Pension
- Monthly tax-free payments for service-connected disabilities or low-income veterans. Accessible through the Manchester VA Regional Benefit Office:

2. Education Benefits (GI Bill, Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment - VR&E)
Post-9/11 GI Bill: Covers tuition, housing allowance, and stipend for books.
Montgomery GI Bill, DEA, Fry Scholarship, and VR&E programs also available.

3. VA Home Loans
Zero-down loans, competitive rates, and no PMI for eligible veterans. Processed through VA-approved lenders and supported by the Manchester Regional Office.
4. Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF)
Provides rapid re-housing and homelessness prevention for low-income veterans and families. Eligibility includes active duty with honorable discharge and income under 50% of area median.
5. Veterans Healthcare & Crisis Support
Healthcare: Through Manchester VAMC and CBOCs across the state including Portsmouth, Somersworth, Conway, and Littleton.

1. State Benefits & Bonuses
Hunting/Fishing and Park Privileges:
a. Free lifetime hunting/fishing licenses for 100% service-connected disabled veterans (one-time $10 fee).
b. State park admission waived for any veteran with VA-verified disability rating and for NH National Guard members E-1 to E-6.
War Bonuses:
a. $100 one-time bonus for Vietnam, Persian Gulf, and Global War on Terrorism service, if NH-resident and honorably discharged.
2. Property Tax Credits
Minimum state-level credit: $51 per veteran (or $100 if both spouses eligible).
Municipalities may offer up to $750 or higher; higher exemptions available for disabled veterans or spouses, up to $4,000 or full exemption if using specially adapted homes.
3. Veterans’ Relief & Support
Veterans and dependents unable to support themselves may receive help at public expense in their local community.
4. NH Veterans’ Home (Tilton)
A 250-bed long-term care facility for veterans, including dementia care; run by nearly 400 staff.

Burial benefits for honorably discharged veterans and eligible dependents, regardless of residency.

6. Records & VSO Assistance
Military Records (e.g., DD-214): Available via National Archives or through the NH Military Archives.
